My 2014 in Six Words

Image
A six word blog, not exactly, but I will some up my 2014 in six words. All roads seem to lead me back to NPR and it should be no surprise that this blog was inspired by National Public Radio (NPR) . It plays such an integral role as one of my main sources for news, media and stories that keep me informed and entertained. Shout out to my mom for turning me on to my local NPR station, WNPR . While there are a number of shows that I love to listen , here's my short list. They include All Things Considered , Car Talk, Fresh Air, Radio Lab , Latino USA, and local programs like Where We Live , and The Colin McEnroe Show , but this blog is inspired by journalist Michelle Norris ' project Welcome to The Race Card Project . The project asks individuals to sum up their feelings about race in six words. People from all across our nation have taken up the challenge and shared their candid feelings about race in America. Listening to others share their personal feelings about race was...

Aereo: Positioned to be a Game Changer in Television

Image
I was driving into work listening to Morning Edition on NPR like I usually do. I heard a story about a company called Aereo that peaked my interest. So today's rant, I mean blog post will focus on cable television and what may be a game changer in the industry.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I despise having a cable bill. I hate the fact that my only options are to go with the provider that serves my town or subscribe to Direct TV or The Dish. Sorry, but I refuse to have those satellites hanging off of my roof or screwed into my siding. Outside of the aesthetics  my main issue is that as consumers we don't have choice. My cable bill is close to 100 dollars a month (and that's with bundling my Internet and no extras like HBO or Showtime). I know I don't watch one-third of the channels I have. Do you? For years I've wondered why I can't customize my cable and pay for the channels I actually want. Doesn't sound right to me.  Well...

Time for a Refresh and More Summer Olympic Games Chatter

In most cases change is a difficult process, however I was ready for a face lift to In the Mix . Do you like it? Eager to hear your thoughts in the comment section, Facebook, or on Twitter @dirtywater22. I opted to go with an orange design template since it's my signature color. I love orange! It makes me pop and stand out. I'm hoping it works for the blog as well. I do wish Blogger offered more template designs in my signature color that were customizable. I didn't have much to work with. This is one area where WordPress has them beat. I'm feeling especially upbeat today. Not sure why either. I don't have any really great news to share. I have met a few goals this past week like finalizing my resume, finishing the latest draft of Quarter Year Dilemmas, submitting it to a play competition, and I've finally started reading Harry Belafonte's memoir, My Song . I received it as a holiday gift this past December and just haven't made the time...
