There was national outrage when the government shutdown forced federal workers , contractors, and their families to go to food banks so they wouldn't have to choose between groceries and monthly bills like rent, mortgage, or a utility bill. Rightly so. People who work should get paid. We saw how devastating working without pay could be and how it trickled down to other businesses, especially main street. After 35 days, the Trump administration saw fit to end the longest government shutdown in U.S. history without getting their 5.7 million for the border wall they wanted. A lot of people suffered as a result. Now, the Trump administration proposes a rule that would take away the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a critical food assistance subsidy, from 3 million people who are struggling to make ends meet.
